Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know my money is being well used and safe?

All money is collected and managed by Tumaini Childrens Charity in the UK, registered charity number 1154999. Funds are released to the school on an as needed basis for monthly running costs, and for specific projects against preapproved quotations and detailed invoices for completed work

Doesn’t the Kenyan government provide free education?

Well, yes and no. Ultimately, education for children who are at Tumaini would not be available at state run schools. This is why our work is so critical, to help those who are less fortunate to live safely, gain an education and break the cycle of poverty they are currently forced into by their circumstances

How will I know how my money is being used?

Each Individual Sponsor is assigned a child at Tumaini Brooks. You will received details of the child and be able to follow their progress through our new portal due for launch in early 2025.

Corporate sponsors will received regular updates on specific projects, and will also be able to view them here

What education do the children receive?

Despite the modest resources, as will be seen from the many pictures on the site, the school is disciplined and well run by a team of dedicated staff.

How much of my donation goes to the school and how much is used on administration?

100% of donations go to the work of the school. All of the work by our team is provided on a voluntary basis. Despite the challenges in our own country, we recognise our relative wealth and desire to help others to enjoy the same lives as we have. So, 100% of donations go directly to running and developing the school

Can I stop my sponsorship at any time?

Yes, your sponsorship is entirely voluntary and can be terminated at any time. Of course, we hope that you will help sustain this critical work over a period of time, and in particular come to know, love and follow the child you sponsor throughout their schooling – and indeed maintain contact with them through life.

Can I visit the school to see their work?

We do arrange visits to Tumaini Brooks from time to time so that you can see first-hand the amazing work that is taking place there.  Please contact us and let us know you would like to do this and we will aim to include you in our next visit.

What Our Sponsors Say

Debbie, Bath

I've been sponsoring Tumaini for 15 years or so and it has been overwhelming to see what has been achieved. Alice in Kenya, and Hannah here in the UK are simply amazing in their love and dedication to the children
